What is SLE?
Inflammatory autoimmune disorder
Affects multiple organ systemics
The production of autoantibodies directed against cell nuclei
3 types of rash to know
Malar (butterfly rash)
Annular SCLE (subcutaneous lupus)
Discoid
Mucocutaneous signs of SLE
Rash
Mouth ulcers
Non scarring alopecia
Discoid lupus
Erythematous raised patches with adherent keratotic scaling and follicular plugging
Also atrophy, scarring, and telangiectasia
Jaccoud’s arthropathy
Nonerosive
Reducible deformities
Renal lupus nephritis
10% of patients progress to ESRD
Screen using urinalysis, urine ACR, monitor BP, peripheral edema
If proteinuria + hematuria: renal biopsy
Can present at any point of the disease and can have recurrent attacks
