Who was Grenville Sharp?

A

Grenville Sharp was deeply touched by the story of a slave called Jonathan. Jonathan was beaten up by his owner. Sharp took him to hospital to help him recover. When Jonathan was well his owner reclaimed him and sold him to someone in the West Indies but he had to wait in prison. Sharp had him released. After 7 years of complaining the Lord Chief Justice said there would be no more selling of men ever again in England

A

John Hawkins was the man who bought the slave trade to Britain. He was a naville commander and a slave trader. He used violence to secure slaves

Who was William Dolben?

A

He was MP for Oxford. He bought in an act to regulate the conditions for slaves on British ships. Rewards were given to captains who completed voyages without losing more than 3% of their slaves.
