What is meant by the term ‘Washed’?
The slaves were cleaned after the horrific journey across the middle passage.
What is meant by the term ‘Deliced’?
Slaves often got lice on board the ship so they had to get rid of them.
What is meant by the term ‘Plugged’?
Slaves with dysentery were plugged.
What is meant by the term ‘Greased’?
Slaves were greased to make them look more muscular.
What is meant by the term ‘Clothed’?
Slaves were given clothes to make them look more presentable.
What is meant by the term ‘Dusted’?
Slaves had their scares and other injuries filled in with a special paste.
What is meant by the term ‘Beaten’?
Slaves were beaten to maintain fesr.
What is meant by the term ‘Separated’?
Salves were separated into groups of about five or six.
What is active resistance?
Resistance which involves physically breaking the rules. This usually involves violence.
What is passive resistance?
Resistance that is a bit more laid back.

What was the ‘Triangular Trade’?
The route that the sailor took from Europe to West Africa to pick up slaves and give away guns and brandy. The sailors would them take the slaves to the Caribbean and sell them to buy cotton, sugar and tobacco. They then sailed back to Europe to sell their goods.
