Skole (School) Flashcards
Alle børn skal have mindst ti års undervisning.
Her skal forældrene betale direkte til skolen for barnets skolegang.
All children must have at least ten years of education.
However, the parents can also choose for the child to receive education elsewhere than in primary school. They can, for example, choose to put the child in a free school or in a private school. Here, the parents have to pay directly to the school for the child’s schooling.
Folkeskolen
De fleste børn i Danmark begynder deres skolegang i
folkeskolen.
Primary School
Most children in Denmark start their schooling in primary school. The primary school is free for all children and lasts 10 years. The children start in the kindergarten class when they are about six years old.
Mellemtrinnet,
An elementary school usually has three steps: The schooling, which goes from kindergarten class to 3rd grade. The intermediate stage, which goes from 4th to 6th grade. The schooling, which starts from 7. to 9th grade.
After 9th grade, you can choose to continue in 10th grade before advancing in the education system, or directly into the labor market. 10th grade is voluntary, but approx. half of all students
enrolls in 10th grade.
Mindst to repræsentanter
fra eleverne sidder også med i skolebestyrelsen*.
At every school that has 5th or higher grade level has
students the right to form a student council. A student council consists of at least one student from each class. The student council is first and primarily helps to decide matters that have to do with the students’ own school day, such as food in the canteen.
The school can also ask the student council what it thinks about major decisions at school. At least two representatives from the students also sit on the school board *.
Students get grades. The grading scale used in Denmark is called the 7-point scale. The highest grade is 12 and the lowest grade is -3. The 7-point scale is used everywhere in the Danish education system.
From the kindergarten class to the 7th grade, the children do not get grades in primary school. But from the 8th grade of primary school, students get grades in a number of subjects at least twice a year.
Efterskoler
Boarding schools
In 8th, 9th or 10th grade, young people can choose to go to boarding-school. An after-school center is a school where students live and receive instruction
