o Located in the subcutaneous tissue or dermis

Loss of superficial epidermis
o Does not extend to the dermis
o Depressed, moist area
Erosion
Skin loss extending past epidermis
o Necrotic tissue loss
Ulcer
Skin mark left after healing of wound or lesion
o Represents replacement by connective tissue of
the injured tissue

Linear crack in the skin
o May extend to the dermis
Fissure
associated with bleeding,
aging, circulatory conditions, diabetes, pregnancy and
hepatic disease among their problems.
Vascular skin lesion
Secondary to blood extravasation
o Associated with bleeding tendencies or emboli to
skin
Petechiae (PI. Petechiae)
Color varies and changes: black, yellow, and
green hues
o Secondary to blood extravasation
Ecchymosis (PI. Ecchymoses)
localized collection of blood creating an
elevated ecchymosis
