Most superficial layer. 15-30 dead highly keratinized cells. Tightly packed
Stratum lucidum
2nd most superficial layer. 2-3 layers. Clear keratin filled. THIS MAKES THICK SKIN.
Stratum Granulosum
2nd most superficial layer in thin skin. 3-5 layers. Non dividing. Produce keratin
Stratum spinosum
8-10 layers, dividing, add to thickness
Stratum basal
Interlocked with dermis. Rapidly dividing basal cells. Melanocytes.
Papillary dermis
Loose connective tissue
20% of dermis.
Papillae attach to dermis via fingers
Reticular dermis
Dense irregular connective tissue
80% of Dermis
Thick fibers in every direction
Flexure lines
Collagen fibers
Hypodermis
Not part of integumentary system
Elastic
Mostly fat
