Skin Flashcards
What types of tissue are found in the skin?
Connective, epithelial, nervous, muscle.
What type of epithelial tissue is found in the epidermis?
Stratified squamous epithelium.
What type of tissue is the dermis composed of and what are the two layers?
Connective tissue, divide into the upper papillary layer (areolar) and the lower reticular layer (dense irregular).
What is the hypodermis?
The fatty adipose tissue layer that lays beneath the reticular layer of the dermis. It connects the skin to the underlying layer of muscle and acts as insulation.
What accessory structures are found solely in thin skin?
Hair follicles, hair roots and shafts, sebaceous (oil) glands, and arrector pili muscles.
What structures are found in both thin and thick skin?
Sweat glands and specialized sensory receptors for touch and pressure (Meissner’s corpuscles and Pacinian corpuscles)
What are the 4 layers of thin skin?
Stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum corneum.
What are the 5 layers of thick skin?
Stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratus lucidum, stratus corneum.
