What is the nucleus and is it membranous.
Cell control centre, yes
What is the nucleoli and is it membranous.
Dense region of DNA, RNA, and protein, where ribosomes are made. Non membranous.
What is a ribosome. Does it have a membrane?
Performs protein synthesis, contains RNA and protein. Non membranous.
What is the function of rough ER?
Protein synthesis.
What is the function of the mitochondria?
ATP synthesis.
What is the function of smooth ER?
Lipid synthesis
What is the function of the Golgi Apparatus?
Package protein and lipids to be sent to cell membrane, or waste to lysosomes for secretion.
What is the function of chromatin?
Carry genes
What is the order of cell division?
Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase.
What happens during prophase?
Chromatin condenses into X shape, spindle fibers begin to form, centrosomes move apart, nuclear envelope begins to disappear.
What happens during metaphase?
Centromeres move to opposite poles, chromosomes line up in middle.
What happens during anaphase?
Chromatids separate, move to opposite ends of cell.
What happens during telophase?
Nuclear envelope and nucleus begin to reform, cleavage between two new cells,
What is cytokinesis?
The division of cytoplasm, forms cleavage furrow of actin filaments. Occurs between late anaphase and the end of mitosis.
