Skin Flashcards
What are the 3 layers of the skin
Epidermis, dermis, Hypodermis.
What does the Epidermis do.
The outermost layer of the skin provides a waterproof layer which contains keratinocytes which provides keratine and melanin
what is keratine
a protective protien
what is melanin
a pigment that gives the skin it’s colour
What is the dermis
The dermis is a layer sandwitched between the hypodermis and epidermis. It contains hair follicles, sweat glands and blood vessels.
Name the parts of the dermis
subatious gland, hair ecrector muscle, hair follicles, sweat glands, sensory neuron, blood vessel, receptor.
Hypodermis
is the deepest layer of the skin, which contains fat, and connective tissues, that protects the internal organ.
What are the parts of the hypodermis
Fatty tissues.
what is the skin and what does it do ?
The skin is the largest part of the body which covers and protects all the internal organs.
It provides protection, regulation, sensation and synthesis. ( touch, temperature, pain, pressure )
Temperature receptors
Thermoceptors are divided into 2 groups which are cold and warm receptors.
Cold receptors
detect decrease is temperatures and are more active in colder environments.
warm receptors
detect increases in temperature and are more active in warmer environments
