A

What do we look for on skin?

A

Erythema- reddening. Blotches. Transparent skin - vascular close to surface . Capillary damage - dilated capillary are visible. Irritates. Cellular - keratinisation. Skin burns - looks tight

Skin irritation causes

A

Formaldehyde, nail polish, perm solution, bleach, alcohol based products. Irritating happens immediately after exposure and will manifest in erythema, itching, inflammation, hives, rash or keratinisation.

Dry skin type

A

Almost translucent
Needs nourishment, in water and oil. Thin epidermis , prone to dilated capillary. Premature ageing , flaky and taught . Often pale pink cheek

Oily skin

A

Sallow yellow in colour. Pores enlarged, skin is high maintenance. Needs lots of cleaning . Prone to spots. Ages well and usually found in dark skinned or dark hairs people

Combination skin

A

Dry check with oily t zone. Treat as two different skin types.

Dehydrated skin condition l?

A

Looks tight and flaky. Exposure to sun can be cause. Tissue lacks water and can be internal or external cause

Sensitive skin

A

Oil dry or combo skin. Prone to rashes, allergies, eczema and dermatitis. Feels hot and itchy

A

Build up of dead skin cells resulting in blocked pores . Causes by lifestyle eating or hormones- uneven surface

A

Skin has pink appearance caused by dilated capillary. Causes by over exposure and lack of protection.

Contagious skin problems - eyes

A

Conjunctivitis - rednesss and inflammation of the conjunctiva. Causes are bacterial or viral infection (infective conjunctivitis) allergic reaction

Stye - small lump on eye - abscess filled with pus and caused by staphylococcus bacterial eye infection.

Cold sores

A

Causes by herpes - HSV-1

First a small red patch appears, blister or cluster develops, blister bursts and then red area scabs and heals

Impetigo

A

Contiguous skin infection causing sores and blisters. Improves rapidly 1 week post treatment.
Red sores appear around nose, mouth, face or limbs. Sores burst leaving a crust around 2cm , crusts dry and leave a red mark that fades from days to weeks

Ringworms

A

Common fungal infection that causes red or silver rash on skin.
Common on arm or leg but can affect anywhere. Often round skin that is inflamed or itchy
