What is the difference between cellulitis and erysipelas?
Cellulitis is an infection if the deeper tissue where erysipelas is a superficial infection

Describe non bollous impetigo
A thin walled vesicle that ruptures quickly forming a golden crust
Describe bullous impetigo
Fluid filled vesicles & blisters that rupture leaving a thin flat yellow brown crust
What is the initial treatment for impetigo if they’re not systemically unwell?
Hydrogen peroxide 1%
What is the treatment if a pt with impetigo is systemically unwell for the infection is around their eyes?
Topical or oral antibiotics
Fusidic acid - topical
(Mupirocin if the organism is resistant)
Flucoxacillin - oral
Clarithromycin or erythromycin for an alternative
How long should fusidic acid and mupirocin be used for and why?
10 days only!
To avoid resistance
What skin condition can metronidazole used for?
Rosacea or BAD BO
Also infection wounds
How long must you treat topical fungal infections for with topical preparations?
1-2 weeks after the infection disappearance
Is a fungal infection is on the scalp do you treat it systemically or topically?
Systemically
When should you use systemic antifungals to treat topical fungal infections?
If the infection is on the scalp, widespread or hard to control
