Iv therapy complications
Phlebitis, circulatory overload, infiltration, extravasation, air embolism, infection
Phlebitis
inflammation of the inner lining of the vein
Manifestations of phlebitis
pain at, surrounding, or proximal to the insertion site; swelling; erythema; fever; and the presence of a palpable cord along the vein.
Circulatory overload
complication caused by infusion of excessive amounts of crystalloid fluids or blood products, or infusion that occurs too quickly.
Manifestations of circulatory overload
Tachycardia; ^ BP client, weight and or central venous pressure; jugular venous distention; edema; cough; tachypnea; crackles in the lungs; decreased o2 saturation; pallor; cyanosis
Infiltration or extravasation
occurs when medication or fluids move from the vein into the surrounding tissue
abdominal assessment
- inspect
- auscultate
- percuss
- palpate
crutches
-2-3 finger(1-1.5 in) gap between armpit and crutch rest
-elbow flexed 30 angle
Crutches types of gait
Two point gait, four point gait, three point gait, swing to gait, swing through gait
Two point gait
move injured side crutch with non injured leg first then the other side
four point gait
