Skills Flashcards
S1 Slap hit/pass
Coaching points: - Bent knees (flexion), leading leg - Correct grip, both hands near top of stick ( right hand lower than left), stick flat to ground - Flexion at elbow Overall effect on performance: - Creates good transfer opportunity, allowing play into open channels - Can be misleading (if disguised slap) Content: - ATP/PC system (less than 3 seconds)
S2 Dribbling
Coaching points:
- Initial leading run into space
- Protecting ball with stick, use of backhand is helpful
Overall effect on performance:
- Makes major headway on oppo causing them to back up and defend giving advantage to their team
Content:
- Knee flexion, Plantar & Dorsi flexion, engaged core, elbow flexion acute hip flexion
- ATP/PC system - initial leading runs
- Glycolytic system - running up pitch
S3 Jab tackle
Coaching points:
- 2 hands on stick until ‘jab’, extension of leading elbow - very fast pace displacing ball from oppo potentially causing them to stick tackle you - turn over ball

Overall outcome:
- Allows movement up the pitch and around players faster, increasing goal scoring opportunities
Context:
- Transfer, for/backhand (bilateral) - slightly different
- Golf may give negative transfer

Coaching points:
- Fundamental skill, to pass of whilst dribbling only viable option
Overall outcome:
- Ball distribution will be poor from her leading runs when dribbling wasting her energy and potentially losing the ball
Context:
- Newton’s 1st law will be applied as ball won’t move without contact from the stick.
