In Abdo palpation examination, describe steps.
Ask: toilet, fetal movements, pain in abdomen
Inspect: scars (pfannesteil (pubic symphysis c-section), laparoscopy (umbilicus), distension consistent pregnancy, symmetry, linea nigra, striae gravidarum, fetal movements.
Palpate: fundus (cupped hands), flanks for lie (flat hand: longitudinal/ transverse (perpendicular)/ oblique - anything other than long/trans), above pubic symphysis, two hands (assess engagement out of 5/5ths + presentation- cephalic/ breech, position- lateral, ant, post)
Measure: from fundus to symphisis, symphysiofundal ht. Tape measure in Inches turn over for cm.
Fetal HR: find ant shoulder (medial to back) and count, do not hold the steth
Recover patient, offer hand up, explain findings.
