Skills Flashcards
1
Q
How do you produce a calibration curve ?
(For Benedict’s test - maltose)
A
Use maltose solutions of different concentrations (and carry out the Benedict’s test)
Use a colorimeter to measure the colour and plot a calibration curve
Find the concentration of sample from the calibration curve
(Conc of maltose - X axis)
(Colorimeter reading - Y axis)
2
Q
What method (not colorimeter) can you use to measure the quantity of reducing sugar in a solution ?
A
- Filter and dry the precipitate
- Find mass/weight
3
Q
How do you use an eyepiece graticule to determine the mean (of a stomata)?
A
Measure (stomata) using the eyepiece graticule
Calibrate eyepiece graticule against stage micrometer
Take multiple measurements to find a mean
