Basic or complex
Open or closed

Definition of a basic skill
Simple skills, such as throwing running, hitting a ball or catching
Definition of a complex skill
More difficult skills to require a higher level of coordination and concentration
The definition of an open skill
The performer needs to react and adjust to the situation, and this will constantly change
Definition of a closed skill
Skills are performed in the same way each time (the environment doesn’t change how old is skill is performed)
Definition of a fine skill
Precise movement that requires high-level of accuracy and technique
Definition of a gross skill
Skills to use large muscle groups to produce large and powerful movements
What is a component of a basic skill
Need to be mastered first before being able to learn complex skills
What is a component of a complex skill
Takes longer to learn and perfect
What is a component of an open skill
Environment changes -weather, pitch, surface, action of the teammates an opponents
What is a component of a closed skill
Where the environment is stable
What is a component of a fine skill
Often small movements that require practice

Large movements that use large muscle groups
