A skill that involves large muscle groups

A skill that involves smaller muscle groups
What is a self paced skill?
When the performer controls the start and speed of the skill
What is an externally paced skill?
When the performer has no control over the start and speed of the skill

A skill that has a clear beginning and end

A skill with no clear beginning or end
What is a serial skill?
A skill that contains several discrete skills in order to make a more integrated movement

Body positioning can be easily broken down and practiced separately if needed

A skill that is not easily broken down

Requires low decision making

Requires high decision making
What is positive transfer?
Occurs when learning in one task is enhanced by learning in another task
What is negative transfer?
Occurs in the initial stages of learning, but the learning and performance of one skill is inhibited by the learning and performance of another
What is zero transfer?
Occurs when there is no similarity at all
What is bilateral transfer?
Occurs when a skill is transferred from limb to limb across the body
