What is a skill?
A skill is a learned and practice ability to bring about the result you want to achieve.
What is an ability?
An ability is qualities and characteristics a person is born with like speed, agility, coordination, flexibility, and balance that allows someone to acquire skills
What are the factors which affect skill?
Age and maturity, motivation, anxiety, arousal condition, facilities, environment, coaching
What are the characteristics of a skilled performance?
Accurate: precise movements
Consistent : high level performance with control and quality.
Fluent: using movements that are quick, smooth and flowing
Coordinated: moving different parts of the body together with efficiency and control.
Aesthetically pleasing : a display that is pleasing to the eye.
Goal directed: focusing on the result of the performance.
What are the stages in the simple information processing model?
Input: the info you received through your eyes and ears.
Decision-making making: using the input your brain will decide how to respond.
Output : after making a decision, the action you take is output.
Feedback: the response you receive after your action.
What are the two types of memories?
Short term: info received for a limited amount of time. Irrelevant info will be discarded.
Long-term : important info that has a limitless capacity and is held for a long time.
What are the different stages of learning?
Cognitive: many mistakes made, basics need to be taught, lack of coordination/fluency.
Associative : fewer errors and more fluency, some ability to intrinsically correct errors.
Autonomous : skills or automatic, much less era and can be self corrected, fluent, and consistent.
What is feedback?
Feedback is the information you receive about your performance.
What is the importance of feedback?
Increase his motivation and improve confidence and helps to correct & detect errors.
What are the types of feedback?
Intrinsic: century info individual received directly from their own body during a performance.
Extrinsic: info about performance that is provided from external sources.
Knowledge of performance : feedback that provides info about the quality of a movement focusing on technique rather than final outcome.
Knowledge of result : feedback of the results of a performance.
What are the types of guidance?
Visual: demonstration, video and is useful for beginners.
Verbal: explanation, instruction, video and should be clear and concise.
Manual : support physically by coach very useful for beginners and useful for confidence.
Mechanical : using equipment to support the learner and ensures safety for the learner.
What is a smarter goal setting technique?
Specific: your goal should be specific.
Measurable: you need to record your time to make sure you have attained your goal.
Agreed: you must agree to reach a goal otherwise you won’t be motivated.
Realistic: your goal should be attainable
Time phased : you should have a time period for reaching your goal.
Exciting: it should excite you show that you will be motivated.
Recorded: you should keep a record of your performances.
What is motivation?
Motivation is a driving force sample will determine the amount of effort and individual. It’s prepared to spend at achieving a goal.
What are the different types of motivation?
Intrinsic and extrinsic
What is a arousal?
A physical and mental state of readiness varying on a continuum of deep sleep to intense alertness
What are the psychological and physiological signs of arousal?
Psychological: increased focus, heightened awareness, narrowing of attention, decrease reaction time, anxiety, tension, disruptive sleep, fear negative self talk.
Physiological signs: increased adrenaline, breathing, heart rate, causes muscle muscles to tense.
What is anxiety?
A negative reaction to stress, causing the performance to feel worried, nervous or apprehensive
What are the types of anxiety?
Cognitive: the mental symptoms that a performer feels such as fear, worry and doubt. (occurs at under arousal.)
Somatic: the physical signs of anxiety, such as dry mouth, sweating, shakiness, increase breathing rate nausea, which all causes a negative effect on the performance of fine skills .
What are the relaxation techniques?
Mental rehearsal: running through a skill sequence of vent in your mind
Visualization: visualize it in yourself, performing the skill correctly whilst staying calm and confident.
Deep breathing : breathing in the deep and focus way to promote relaxation and physical well-being
What are the different personality types and what are their characteristics?
Introvert: a quiet, shy and reserve personality type associated with individual sports.
Characteristics: enjoy their own company, prefer individual sports, perform best at low levels of arousal, have lower pain tolerance
Extrovert, sociable, lively, optimistic, outgoing, personality, type associated with team sports.
Characteristics: enjoy interacting with others and get bored easily on their own, prefer team sports, perform best at high levels of arousal, sports that require gross movements and less concentration, have increased pain tolerance .
