Skeletal system/ Muscle shit Flashcards
what is Excitability ( Irritability)?
The ability to contract in response to chemical and/or electrical signals eg
For a muscle to contract, its cells must be simulated, typically via nerve impulses, as messages from the CNS
what is Contractibility?
The ability of a muscle to contract or shorten. “the all or none principle”
what is Extendibility?
The capacity of a muscle to stretch to beyond its normal, resting length
what is Elasticity?
The ability of a muscle to return for the original length after being stretched.
what does the skeletal system?
Provides framework for the body and gives shape, protects vital organs, Eg cranium protects brain.
what is a Agonist part?
A Prime mover
What is a Fixator?
Hold area in place
What is Synergist?
Assits movement by stabilising the surrounding area
Biceps-Triceps
Top and underside of upper arm, Flexion/extension
Pectorals-latissimus dorsi
Chest/lower back, Flexion/extension
Anterior deltoids- posterior deltoids
shoulder, Flexion/ extension, rotation and circumduction
Trapezius- deltoids
Top back, shoulders. Rotation and circumlocution
Abdominous rectus-spinal erectous
upper abs-back, Rotation and circumlocution
Left and right external obliques
Abs right and left, Rotation. Flexion/extension
Quadriceps-hamstrings
legs, top of thighs. FLexion/Extension at hips and knee
Tibialisis anterior- gastrocnemius
Front of shin, Flexion and extension
what is Flexion?
a joint angle decreasing, ex bicep curl going up
What is Extension?
a joint angle increasing ex bicep curling going down stretching bicep
What is abduction?
Moving away from centre line ex upwards phase of a lat raise
what is Adduction?
moving towards midline ex downwards phase of a lat raise
What is rotation?
when a part turns on its axis ex head rotates on neck
what is circumduction?
the circular movement of a limb ex Cricket bowling
what is Plantar flexion?
increasing angle between foot and leg. Kicking and afl football
What is Dorsi flexion?
decreasing angles between foot and leg ex sprinting
