Skeletal System Flashcards
What are some types of joints?
Synarthrosis(immovable), Amphiarthrosis(slightly moveable), and diarthrosis(freely moveable).
What is synovial?
The joint is found between bones that move against each other.
What is fibrous?
The tissue is made up of protein fibers called collagen and fibroblasts.
What is cartilaginous?
Joints in which the bones are connected by cartilage.
What is the flat bone and example?
Spongy bone, ex: frontal
What is the irregular bone and example?
Doesn’t fit into any other category. ex: Vertabrae
What is the short bone and example?
Shaped roughly, mostly spongy bone. ex: carpels
What is long bone and an example?
2 ends and is longer than it is wide. ex: femur
What is a sesamoid bone example?
Patella
What are the functions of the skeletal system?
Shape and allows movement, and makes blood cells.
What is Osteocyte?
cell surrounded by mineralized bone.
what is osteoclast?
giant cells that resorb bone.
What is osteoblast?
Cuboidal cells that are located alone the bone surface.
What is an axial skeleton?
Chest and pelvic region. ex: ribs
What is an appendicular skeleton?
Limbs ex: arms and legs
