Skeletal System Flashcards
study the study of animal body parts is the foundation of higher veterinary subjects.
veterinary anatomy
provides a supporting framework for the body, a firm base to which the muscles of locomotion are attached, and protects the softer tissues enclosed within the framework.
skeletal system

cranial
is the portion towards the tail
caudal
refers to the portion towards the back or towards the sky
dorsal
is the portion towards the plane of support or towards the belly.
ventral

rostral
is located outside or external
superficial
is located inner or within the body
deep
is towards the point of origin
proximal
is away from the point of origin
distal
is the surface other front limbs that touches the ground
palmar
is the surface of the hind leg that touches the ground
plantar
skeleton can be divided into three parts.
- AXIAL
- APPENDICULAR
- SPLANCHNIC
consists of the skull, vertebral column, the ribs and sternum
axial
consists of several bones interconnected to one another by fibrous connective tissues known a sutures
skull/cranium
consists of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral and caudal
vertebral column
this is long, laterally compressed and consist of eight sterne brae, which fuse only in exceptional cases.
sternum
thirteen pairs of ribs are present, of which nine are true sternal, four are false or sternal. curved, narrow, and thick, middle are the longest, the costal cartilages are long curved ventrally and cranially.
