Skeletal Part Two Flashcards
Discontinuity of bone caused by mechanical forces
Fractures
One in which the bone has penetrate the skin
Open/Compund fx
One in which the skin is not penetrated
Closed/simple fx
One or more fragments separate along the edges of the major fragment
Comminuted fx
Comminuted fx which one butterfly wing shaped fragments spilt off from the main fragment
Butterfly fx
Comminuted fx w/ long sharp pointed fragments
Splintered fx
One in which the bone has seaparated into two fragments
Complete , non comminuted fx
Rotary type of injury that twist the bone apart
Spiral/ oblique
Normal bone in invariably ragged along the fracture line
Transverse fx
Transverse fx occuring in abnormal bone that is weakend by various disease
Pathologic fx
Type of complete, noncomminuted fx which two or more complete fx occur involving the shaft of a single bone
Multiple fx
When fragment of bone is pulled away from the shaft
Avulsion fx
Avulsion fx of a small fragment or chip of bone from the corner of a phalanx
Mallet finger is an example of it
Chip fx
Only Part of the bony structure gives way, with little or no displacement
Incomplete
Cortex breaks on one side without separation or breaking of the opposing cortex
Greenstick fx
Cortex bulges outward
Referred as buckle fracture
Torus
Penetration by a sharp object such as bullet or knife
Penetrating fx
Result of an abnormal degree of repetitive trauma
Stress fx
Sites of maximal strain on a bone
“March fracture”
Fatigue fx
Complete right angles to the long axis of the bone
Transverse
Incomplete fx extends from the surface
Fissure
Fx neither parallel nor perpendicular to the bone
Oblique
Bone twisted apart
Spiral
Lengthwise break in a bone
Longitudinal
One bone fragment driven into another
Impacted
Common in distal radius of children
Torus
Separated into numerous fragments
Comminuted
Fx in two district place
Double
