Skeletal Muscle Flashcards
endomysium
sheath of CT wrapped around individual muscle fibers
perimysium
sheath of CT wrapped around fascicules (bundle of muscle fibers)
epimysium
encases multiple fasciculi to form the muscles of the body
motor unit
muscle fibers connected by a single motor neuron
the number of motor units within a muscle determine:
how fine one can control the movements of that muscle
superficial fascia
subdermal loose connective tissue that contains fat, nerves, and blood vessels
deep fascia
thick connective tissue that forms various protective structures. Investing layer surrounds muscle groups and intermuscular septa separates functional muscle groups
bursae
flattened sacs located in regions where friction needs to be reduced between muscle/tendon and bone
synovial sheaths
bursae surrounding tendons
