skeletal and muscle system (unit 2) Flashcards
the three types of muscle :
skeletal, Smooth, and Cardiac
Two types of skeletal muscle ;
striated, voluntary
two types of smooth muscle
non striated and involuntary
two types of cardiac muscle
striated and involuntary
Muscular functions (top 3)
movement, heat production, and Posture
name the 4 muscle characteristics
excitability, contractility, extensibility, and elasticity
the way they name muscles is by looking at….
location, shape, number of divisions, function, fibre direction, muscle size, and point of attachment.
what is extensibility
the ability to continue to contract over a range of resting lengths
what is good posture
body alignment that favours function with the least amount of work and tax on the body
what is poor posture
puts abnormal strain on ligaments and bones
what is tonicity
muscle tone, the muscles ability to exsert pull against gravity
anterior
front of the body
posterior
back of the body
superior
above the body (head)
inferior
below (toes)
