Sites Buildings and Structures Flashcards
What is the purpose of the Reactor Building?
- The Reactor Building houses the nuclear reactor and associated nuclear related equipment.
- The Reactor Building is a containment structure to minimize accidental release of radioactivity.
The RB being kept as a vaccuum is based around the containment ideolgy.
What does the storage tank at the top of the Reactor Building supply?
- Boiler Make-Up
- Dousing
- Emergency Core Cooling
What is the purpose of the Service Building?
The Service Building is designed to accomadate services for one reactor unit (with provisions for extensions for a second unit).
Contains facilities such as:
* Main Control Room
* Spent Fuel Transfer and Storage
* Heavy Water Treatment
* Radioactive waste treatment
What is the purpose of the Turbine Building?
The Turbine Building hosts conventional systems such as the turbine/generator, condensors, electrical power distribution and feedwater systems as well as auxiliary equipment.
What does the Turbine Building Annex house?
The Turbine Building Annex houses the Water Treatment Plant and the two stand-by generators.
What is the purpose of the Fresh Water Pumphouse?
The purpose of the Fresh Water Pumphouse is to accomadate the fresh water pumps, fire water pumps and the emergency water system pumps (and associated equipment).
What is the purpose of the Salt Water Pumphouse (CCW)?
The purpose of the CCW pumphouse is to house two CCW pumps, 4 RSW pumps, and associated equipment.
The intake and discharge tunnels have provisions to minimize fish ingress and minimize the effect of warm water discharge.
What is the purpose of the Hansen Stream Pumphouse?
The Hansen Stream Pumphouse is used to house two pumps (one electrical and one diesel) which supply all fresh water used at the station.
It also is supplied Class V power, has it’s own fire deluge system, and generate’s a single trouble alarm in the control room as applicable.
What is the purpose of the Offsite Emergency Center (OEOC)?
The purpose of the OEOC is:
* to house all equipment required to be entirely independent of the plant in the case of a major radiological event.
* to house all equipment required to perform surveys in the event of a major radiological event.
* can be used by EMO (Emergency Measures Organization) in case of other emergencies.
What is the purpose of the Administration Building
The Admin Building houses offices, security, cafeteria, etc. for standard administrative tasks/roles.
(Also includes several attached trailers)
What is the purpose of the Solid Radioactive Waste Management Facility?
The SRWF houses concrete structures for long term storage of spent fuel, resin, etc. to lower radioactive levels.
Vehicles cannot access area without concrete barriers being removed.
What do the two levels (or phases) within the SRWF contain?
Phase 1 contains general radioactive waste products.
Phase 2 contains spent fuel, resins, etc.
What is the purpose of Construction Stores?
The purpose of construction stores is to house material that is purchased but not immediately ready for it’s intended purpose. Initial equipment inspecitons also normally occur here.
What does STOIC stand for?
Simulation Training Office Information Complex
What does SOAP stand for?
Supplamentary Office Administration Project
