The conditions are too cold, windy, and wet. Soil tends to be thin and poor due to mass movement. Building materials are not widely available.

The direction in which a place is facing

In the northern hemisphere, the best slopes to locate on face south since they receive more sunshine, which is better for agriculture.

Why are rivers important?
Water, transport, fertile soil and food
What is a bridging point?
A place where it’s easiest to cross a river, usually at a narrow point

When land is slanted rather than flat, when its really slopes its called steep
