Describe management of blanket bog.
A
- Deep peat - Doesn’t require management
- Heather - burn, but too much can result in too much cottongrass.

A
- Dominated by heather and gorse
- Managed through light grazing to prevent gorse dominating heather
- Too much grazing results in less heather and too much grass.

- Acid, neutral or limestone
- Can be cut = meadows or grazed = pastures.

- Really needed or not?
- Coppice management - trees cut down, some time later new stems appear (makes way for plants which require sunlight).

- Removal of dead wood
- However important for woodpeckers and insects.
