What is site investigation and why is it undertaken?
1) Help to determine suitability of a site for development
2) Ascertain ground conditions, foundation design/selection, build up of substrata, ensure that foundation can withstand dead/wind loads with no settlement
Why is important to determine the soil type?
Soil types will have an affect on the type of foundation that is selected
What is a field study and whats included?
A field study is essentially visiting the site and surrounding area, this includes:
site visit
site characteristics (logistics, neighbours, infrastructure)
H&S hazards
Ground conditions, water table and soil type determination
Trial pits/bore holes
Comtamination
Flood potential
demolition
What is 6F2?
An aggregate composed of crushed concrete, brick and mortar
