what is sepsis defined as?
SIRS with a suspicion of infection
what is severe sepsis ?
sepsis with end organ dysfunction resp:ARDS CVS: hypotension renal : oliguria and AKI Hepatic: altered LFT and coagulation haematological: DIC, thrombocytopaenia CNS: confusion, altered GCS unexplained metabolic acidosis

what is septic shock?
severe sepsis with hypotension that is refractory to fluid resuscitation
what is the sepsis 6?
give 3 take 3 give 3 Fluids (500ml saline stat) Oxygen 94-98% IV antibiotics (AGM/VGM if penicillin allergic)
what 3 do you take?
urine output (catheterise)
blood cultures
lactate
what antibiotics work on the wall but not a b lactam?
vancomycin
name an aminoglycoside
gentamycin
gentamicin shouldn’t be given for more than ?

examples of macrolides?
clarithromycin

what type of bacteria is doxycycline?

tetracycline which is associated with c diff?

which antibiotic can interact with the COCP? why?
rifampicin - its a liver enzyme inducer
reduces contraceptive effect of the pill
which antibiotics increase plasma concentrations of theophylline? what can this cause/
macrolides. this can cause seizures
what antibodies can increase chance of myopathy when taken with statins?
macrolides
