As divorce rates have soared since the 1970s, inevitably people will end up living alone. The man will form a single parent household and the women will often get custody of the children.
More and more people are unlikely to get married, sociologists call this the creative singlehood. This can be for many reasons; focused on careers, geography e.c.t.
How has the unwillingness to share accommodation led to a rise in single person households according to Duncan and Phillips (2013)?
They identified a new trend of living together apart. Or LATs. People can maintain a romantic relationship and do not need to live together. Can be for a number of reasons; geography, negative past experiences ect. The BSA found that 20% of people said that LATs would be an ideal form of relationship
