What is a mechanism
A set of moving parts that are used to make work easier. machines contain mechanisms.
What is a lever
A simple mechanism made of a bar that turns around a fixed point, this is used to move weights.
What is a fulcrum?
The point of movement or pivot on which the arm of the lever moves.
Define: effort.
A force exerted in a mechanism that enables it to work
What is a load
The object or mass that has to be lifted , cut or moved
What are the 3 types of levers?
First class levers, second class levers and third class levers.
Define a first class lever and one example
The fulcrum is placed between the load and effort. Examples are a see saw.
What is a second class lever and give one example
The load is placed between the effort and the fulcrum. An example would be a bottle opener.
Explain how a third class lever works .
The effort is applied between the fulcrum and the load.
