Simple Machines Flashcards
What is a first class lever?
Fulcrum is Inbetween the input and output force
What is a 2nd class lever, and a third class lever
The fulcrum at very end and output force between input and fulcrum(2nd)
The fulcrum is at one end, the input force is in the middle (3rd)
What is the IMA formula for the levers?
Determined by dividing output force by input force IMA = dividing length of input arm by length of output arm
Pulleys what are they made of and what is the IMA
Answer: made of grooved wheel with a rope looped around, IMA= in fixed pulley Ima is 1 because the input and output are the same
Wheel and axle: what are they made of? How to you calculate their Ima?
Made of axle attached to a wheel (eg)doorknob
IMA: divide radius of wheel by radius of axle
Inclined plane: what is it made of and how do you find the ima
Made of sloping surface on which an object can move
You can calculate the Ima by dividing length of ramp by height of ramp
Screw: what is a screw and how do you find MA
Is an inclined plane wrapped around a rod
Lever: There are 3 classes of levers, how are they classified?
Answer: by the location of the fulcrum, input and output force
