Mechanical advantage
The percentage of the input work done on a machine that a machine can return in output work.
Efficiency
One of the basic machines on which all the other mechanical machines are based.
Simple machine
A solid bar that rotates it turns around a fixed point. (Fulcrum)
Lever
A fixed point around which a lever rotates.
Fulcrum
A simple machine that is a wheel attached to a shaft, or axle.
Wheel and axle
A wheel with a grooved rim that turns on an axle; one of the six simple machines.
Pulley
A simple machine that is a sloping surface, such as a ramp.
Inclined plane
A simple machine that has a thick and thin end.
Wedge
A simple machine that is an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder.
Screw
Any device that makes doing work easier.
