Simple Harmonic Motion Flashcards
1
Q
Periodic Motion
A
Any kind of motion that repeats itself periodically about a mean position is said to be oscillatory.
2
Q
Time Period
A
The time it takes to complete one cycle of the oscillation (given in s).
3
Q
Frequency
A
The number of cycles completed per second (given in Hz).
4
Q
Amplitude
A
The maximum displacement from the equilibrium position.
5
Q
Circular Motion
A
Object moves in a circle around a fixed point with uniform speed.
6
Q
Properties of SHM
A
Displacement changes with time; the larger displacement the lower the speed; speed is 0 at max displacement; at max displacement the object changes direction; accelerations equals -w^2s.
