Simple Cells Flashcards
What difference can be used to make a cell?
The difference in reactivity between two metal electrodes.
What liquid must be used?
A salt solution/electrolyte.
Which way do the electrons flow?
From the more reactive metal to the less reactive metal.
How long will the current flow in the circuit until?
Until one of the reactants is used up.
What is the relationship between the difference in reactivity and voltage produced?
The greater the difference in reactivity between two metals used, the higher the voltage produced.
Which metal has a greater tendency to give away electrons? What does this form?
The more reactive metal. This forms a positive ion.
What other factor affects the voltage produced?
The electrolyte used.
What happens in rechargeable cells?
The reaction that occured at each eleotrode is reversed by a power supply, generating the original reactants.
