He found out that gull chicks peck at their parents beaks to ask for food. He tested different models of adults gull beaks to see which model the chicks would innately respond to and peck at the most frequently

Imprinting is a simple learned behaviour
What is a example of imprinting?
One example of imprinting is soon after hatching a gosling (young goose) learns to recognise its mother and will stay close to her.
