Interaction b/w 2 different organisms living in close physical association
What are the 5 types of symbiosis?
Mutualism, commensalism, parasitism, competition, and predation/herbivory
What does mutualism mean?
Both species benefit
What does commensalism mean?
One species benefits the other is unaffected
What does parasitism mean?
One species benefits while the other is harmed
What does competition mean?
Struggle of individuals to obtain a shared limiting resource
What does predation/herbivory mean?
One species consumes the other
What does predation/herbivory mean?
One species consumes the other
What is the competitive exclusion principal?
2 species competing for the same limiting resource cannot coexist
What is resource partioning?
When 2 species divide a resource based on difference in their behavior or morphology
