Q

Windshear indications

A

1) Hesitant or excessive airspeed buildup,
2) Uncommanded airspeed changes of ±10 kts,
3) Sudden headwind/tailwind changes of 15 kts+ (check ref GS),
4) uncommanded FPV change of ±2º or VVI change of 500 fpm,
5) Excessive RA sink rate,
6) Excessive pitch attitudes,
7) Heavy precipitation (Red) on WX Radar

Q

Windshear recovery

A
  • MAX thrust.
  • On approach, use TOGA & hand fly.
  • Flaps ½.
  • Do not follow FD pitch guidance.
  • Pitch for +1-2º FPV, which should approximate 400-500 fpm VVI.
  • If 400-500 fpm VVI cannot be obtained by 15º pitch (approximates best ½ flaps climb performance), maintain 15º pitch.
  • If at 15º pitch & sinking while below 200’ AGL, increase pitch to stick shaker until clear of windshear.
  • Raise gear after extended positive climb & ground contact is not a concern, but not lower than 1000’ AGL.
  • Raise flaps after exiting windshear & VMFR is attained.

Q

When do you depart VFR

A

Not authorized IFR departure (no instr apch)
cannot depart using IFR method
Operational rqmts dictate
majority of sortie is vfr

Q

T/O wx mins

A

Operational-1000 RVR, rwy must have dual RVR readouts displaying min of 1000 RVR on both, rwy centerline lighting operational, and msn priority dictates. No RVR vis>= 1/2 mile

all others-1600 RVR

16
Q

When is alternate rqd

A

Departure-ceiling or vis is below landing mins for lowest suitable apch (not including Cat II)

Destination- 2000 ft and 3 SM
all aproaches require radar
NAVAID unmonitored
no WX reporting capability
lowest compatible apch mins >= 1500-3
17
Q

Departure alternate rqmts

A

w/in 30 min-wx >= published apch min and forecast to remain so until 1 hr after t/o but no lower than 200-1/2 (RVR 1200)

w/in 2 hrs- at least 500-1 above lowest apch mins but not less than 600-2 for precision or 800-2 for non precand forecast to remain so for 1 hr after ETA @ alternate

18
Q

Destination alternate rqmts

A

worst forecast wx for ETA +1hr to include TEMPO will meet or exceed 1000-2 ft or 500-1 above lowest compatible mins whichever is higher;

19
Q

Disqualifying an alternate

A
All apchs require radar
unmonitored NAVAID
no wx reporting service
ANA on all apch
any note disqualifying airfield as alternate
GPS is the only NAVAID
20
Q

File two alternates when

A

forecast vis less than published for available precision apch or forecast ceiling or vis less than published for all other apchs

If no ceiling take HAA/HAT and round up to nearest 100

forecast winds exceed limits corrected for RCR

21
Q

Remote or island destination

A

May use 2+00 holding fuel in lieu of alternate

winds, corrected for RCR, w/in limits @ ETA +2 hrs

ceiling and vis>= published mins for non precision apch @ ETA +2 hrs

if precision apch available ceiling or vis may be intermittently below non precision mins but not precision mins

22
Q

PAR apch

A

vis no lower than RVR 2400 or 1/2 mile vis

23
Q

full flight instrumentation

A

w/out: limited to 300-3/4 (RVR 4000)

CAT I/PAR: FD, HUD or PFD, and NAV display at each station, no shared ADC or IRU

CAT II: FD, HUD or PFD, and NAV display at each station, no “CAT II” warning messages

24
Q

CAT II apch limits

A

100 ft and RVR 1200 min

max xwind=10 kts (actual) 15 kts (training)

w/in 1/2 dot +/-5 kts @ 100 ft

below 300 ft “No CAT II” message=go around

25
Q

IFR departure methods

A
Diverse departure
ODP (VCOA or RTRL)
SID
ATC departure instructions
Non-standard t/o min-@ or above published ceiling by end of runway then 200'/NM
MAJCOM certified procedure
26
Q

NVG takeoff/landing

A

Qualified=600-2 (waiver to 300-1)
Unqualified=1500-3
xwind limit-Rwy width 90-120=15, >120=20 (waiver to 30)
