SILO 2.4 TacComms Flashcards
Does TacComms include the distribution of information within LAN or PAN ?
NO !
What are the 4 core components of TacComms ?
CNR (Combat Net Radio), WAS (Wide Area Network) , MANET (Mobile Ad Hoc Network) and line communications.
What is the ULF band used for ?
Telephony.
What is the HF band used for ?
Long range BLOS. Secondary CNR. Affected by many factors.
What is the VHF band used for ?
LOS CNR. Groud/Ground and Air/Ground.
What is the UHF band used for ?
Near LOS for Air/Ground in CNR. Relay in WAS. Some cellulars.
What is the SHF band used for ?
High capacity microwave, satellite, WIFI LAN and tactical satelites.
What is the EHF band used for ?
Upper satellites transmission, commercial high speed microwave, 5GHz Wifi.
What is the THF band used for ?
Imagery, data acquisition, surveillance devices and thermal sensing.
What is the IR and Near IR bands used for ?
Fiber Optics.
What are the 3 main grouping of Combat Net Radio (CNR) ?
CNR(P), CNR(HF) and CNR(A/G/A)
P- primary : VHF, FH
HF : HF, FH, Medium/Long range
A/G/A : VHF/UHF, FH
What is the difference between a AN and a TN
Access Node (AN) is used inside to connects elements while Terminal Node (TN) are used to connect networks.
What distance can a microwave link cover ?
about 50 km.
Is satellite communications LOS or BLOS ?
BLOS.
What are the 2 types of satellites in use ?
GEO and LEO (i.e. IRIDIUM)
