Why did Guru Nanak begin his mission?
To teach men and women to pray, do works of charity, and live purely.
What was Guru Nanak a great believer in?
Equality.
What did the first members of the Khalsa have to do?
They had to show they were willing to die for their Sikh beliefs.
What happens when Sikhs become members of the Khalsa?
They adopt the name Singh meaning lion (male) or Kaur meaning princess (female).
What is important about their new names?
It shows them how they should behave.
What are the 5 K’s?
Kesh (uncut hair), Kangha (comb), Kara (steel bangle), Kachera (cotton shorts), Kirpan (sword).
Who was the 10th and last guru?
Guru Gobind Singh
Who led the Sikhs after Guru Gobind Singh died?
The Guru Granth Sahib. It is believed to be the word of God but they don’t worship it.
How do the Sikhs treat the Guru Granth Sahib?
They treat it with great respect; they treat it like a king and it has its special bedroom in the Gurdwara.
