The founder of Sikhism. He was born ina time of conflict between Hindus and Muslims. His parents wanted him to be Hindu but he rejected that
Who was Guru Gobind Singh?
The tenth and final mortal Guru to this day. He created the Guru Granth Sahib and the Khalsa.
What is a brief story of the Khalsa?
In 1699, sikhs from all over india came to celebrate Hindu festival of Baisakhi. The guru asked for 5 loyal supporters who were willing to die for their religion. Everyone thought they were doomed but the 5 came out unharmed and were known as the Panj Piare. They were then baptised into the first members of the Khalsa.
What is the Panj Piare also known as?
The Beloved Five
What is the Amrit Ceremony?
A ceremony where a to-be sikh is sprinkled with Amrit ( a mixture of sugar and water) to become part of the Khalsa.
What is the Khalsa?
A communtiy of Sikha who abide by the 5K’s
What is the Kirpan?
A sword- signifies the duty of a sikh to defend their religion and stand up to injustice.
What is the Kachera?
Shorts- a symbol signifying self control and chastity (sexual control)
What is the Kanga?
A comb- a symbol of hygiene and discipline
What is Kesh?
Long hair- shows spirituality and to be like Guru.
What is the Keshki?
Turban- a symbol of royalty and mandatory for men.
What is the Guru Granth Sahib?
Guru Gobind Singh realised he would be the last mortal Guru so wanted to create an immortal Guru which is the Guru Granth Sahib- a religious scripture to remind all Sikhs of how to act
