Describe Bhakti Yoga
The method of attaining God through love and the loving recollection of God. A form of it is chanting and music.
Describe Jnana Yoga
Gaining knowledge of the God through self study. Example is reading scriptues
Describe Raja Yoga
The royal path of meditation. Reduces stress whilst connecting with Hinduism
Describe Karma Yoga
The yoga of action or work. The path of selfless action will come back to you.
Which God do Hindus believe is the ultimate reality?
Brahman. There are many deities of him with different traits that cause Hindus to worship them.
Who is Brahma?
Brahma- the creator of our world. The least worshipped God in Hinduism because his job is done. His wife is Saraswati. Represented by rosary and swan.
Who is Lord Vishnu?
Second God in Trimutri.
Preserver of our world. Wife is Lakshmi. Vishnu rides King of Birds. Hindus that worship him are called Vaishnava
Represented with blue coloured skin and 4 arms
Incarnations are Rama and Krishna
Who is Lord Shiva?
Third God in Trimurti.
Destroyer of evil
Hindus that worship him are called Shaivas.
What is Puja?
Worship or paying respect to chosen deity
What is a Deity?
One of the many forms of Brahman
What is a shrine/ idol?
A place set aside for puja to pay respects to a chosen deity
What is the highest class in the Caste System?
Brahmins
Priests and teachers who must understand scriptures
Considered as role models
What is the second class of the Varnas?
Kshatriyas- rulers, royal family, pm.
Protects in wartime and governs normally
What is the third class of the Varnas?
Vaishyas- buisness people Respondisble for providing wealth in society.
What is the fourth class of the Varnas?
Shudras- workers and servants responsible for physical labour. Serves need of other castes
What is the fifth class?
Daalits- untouchables. Outside of caste system. Must do unclean jobs. Maltreated and poorest
What is the Trimurti?
The three gods that are considered most important to Hindus.
How might a Hindu use kum kum paste in worship.
This is to show respect to the gods.They use this to make a mark on the forehead of the images of the gods and devotees
How might a Hindu use murtis in worship?
These figures usually form the focus for prayer. Hindus may also apply the paste to their deity’s forehead. Symbolises how God is watching over us and gracing our homes.
How might a Hindu use incense in worship?
During rituals, an incense stick is lighted to remove unpleasant odours in the air. It creates a setting for an auspicious ritual by filling the air with a pleasant smell. Graces the God and the occassion.
How might a Hindu use a bell in worship?
It is said that by ringing the bell, the devotee informs the deity of their arrival and to ask for their blessings.
How might a Hindu use prashad
in worship?
They show respect to the gods by making offerings of money or food. Later the food is blessed by the god and is now Prashad which is offered to all devotees.
How might a Hindu use water
in worship?
Water is offered to the gods on a spoon. This is to show respect to the gods and to cleanse them.
What are the holy books of Hinduism?
Bhagavad Gita, The Vedas. Written in Sanskrit

What is an avatar?
The incarnation of a deity in human or animal form to counteract an evil in the world.
What are the 4 aims of life
dharma- following rules
artha- acquiring wealth
kama- fulfilment of desires
moksha- attaining liberation
