1) FETAL SKELETON ON X-RAY
2) FETAL PRESENCE ON ULTRASOUND
3) AUSCULTATION OF THE FETAL HEART RATE (Doppler detecting a Heart Rate of 140 b/min. bet. 8-12 WEEKS)
Starts beating at 5 wks but cannot hear it until 8 WKS.
4) When the EXAMINER PALPATES FETAL MOVEMENT

b) CHADWICK’S SIGN = Cervical Color Change to Cyanosis (& so is the vagina)
GOODELL’S SIGN = is a Cervical Softening
HEGAR’S SIGN = is a Uterine Softening
(goes inorder alphabetically)
What are the PATTERNS OF OFFICE VISIT to have a good PRENATAL CARE & how OFTEN they should COME?
ONCE a MONTH until WEEK 28th (whole 1st & 2nd Trimester & even into the 3rd Trimester)
ONCE EVERY 2 WEEKS - WEEK 28TH - 36TH
ONCE A WEEK -until DELIVERY or WEEK 42ND
WEEK 42ND VISIT - woman will know if C-SECTION or INDUCTION delivery
What should you teach the Pregnant Woman about the HEMOGLOBIN?
Hemoglobin will DECREASE (1st Trimester = 11g is normal; 2nd Trimester = 10.5g is still normal; 3rd Trimester = 10 still normal)
(10.1g in 37th wk is normal. Acceptably low could be as low as 9g)
How would you treat MORNING SICKNESS?
Give DRY CARBOHYDRATES (crackers) before getting out of bed (1st Trimester)
How do you deal with INCONTINENCE which is a 1ST and 3RD TRIMESTER Problem?
Because the baby is DOWN ON the BLADDER on the 1st and 3rd Trimester, Encourage to VOID atleast every 2 HOURS from the day she got Pregnant until 6 WEEKS AFTER DELIVERY
Why do you NOT get a URINARY INCONTINENCE in the 2ND TRIMESTER?
Because the BABY is at the ABDOMINAL PREGNANCY, up high OFF the BLADDER
