ANOSMIA
blue skin (low oxygen in blood)
CYANOSIS
crackling sounds during inspiration; indicates fluid or mucus in airway
CRACKLES (RALES)
abnormal widening and thickening of fingers (chronic oxygen deficiency)
CLUBBING
abnormal breathing pattern with long periods of apnea followed by hyperventilation
CHEYNE-STOKES RESPIRATION
contraction of smooth muscle in bronchial walls
BRONCHOSPASM
dilated bronchi
BRONCHIECTASIS
slow breathing, low RR
BRADYPNEA
withdrawing fluid by suctioning; removing secretions from patient’s airway, inhaling food or liquid into trachea
ASPIRATION
lack of O2 (can lead to unconsciousness and death)
ASPHYXIA
not breathing
APNEA
unable to produce sound
APHONIA
unable to obtain O2 from inhaled air
ANOXIA
difficulty producing sound
DYSPHONIA
difficulty or labored breathing; SOB (Shortness Of Breath)
DYSPNEA
nosebleed
EPISTAXIS
normal breathing and RR
EUPNEA
cough up blood or blood-stained sputum
HEMOPTYSIS
presence of blood in the chest cavity
HEMOTHORAX
excessive CO2
HYPERCAPNIA
deep breaths
HYPERPNEA
