3 types of signs
regulatory signs, warning signs, and information signs
Regulatory signs are compulsory which means
you must obey or you risk getting a fine and/or demerit points
If there is no stop line at a stop sign
stop where you have a clear view of the intersection
Give Way and Roundabout signs are usually accompanied by
a white broken line
No overtaking/passing signs used when
roads narrow and/or there’s poor visibility
If you can proceed at a No overtaking/passing sign don’t overtake until
you’ve passed the distance indicated by the sign, you see an End no overtaking/passing sign OR
you’re at the end of a bridge/narrow road (whatever is indicated on the sign)
Keep Left Unless Overtaking sign
keeps the right hand lanes of a multi lane road free for people to overtake slow-moving traffic

don’t drive in the right lane unless overtaking, turning right, making a U-turn, avoiding an obstacle, or driving in congested traffic
Speed signs are a form of
regulatory signs
The speed limit is
the fastest speed you can safely travel in good conditions
The speed limit in local streets or built up areas is
50km/h (unless otherwise indicated by signs)
A local street or built-up area is an area that has
buildings and/or street lights that are not more than 100m apart
When seeing a warning sign
you should drive to suit the hazard, slow down, and continually scan the area
Hazard Markers
placed on hazards on the road and other road features that drivers need to be aware of
Width Markers
indicate the width of something like a bridge or a narrow part of the road
No through road sign
tells you that a road ends in a dead-end
Reduce speed now sign
tells you that the highway you’re on is ending
Service signs
blue and white signs that show services that are available on the road ahead or on a side road
Yellow light is at the end/start of
start of a red light. you must stop if you can safely
Flashing yellow light indicates
a traffic light fault or power outage
If yellow light is flashing
you may drive past it (apply give way rules)
Two yellow lights flashing one after the other indicates
a hazardous situation or a change to traffic conditions
Hand signals can be used in circumstances such as
road crashes, traffic signal failures or road closures
Go as directed (hand signal)

Any directions given by police/emergency services
must be obeyed and overrules any existing signals and signs

Giving way means
