What are the side effects of loop diuretics ?
A
- Hypokalaemia
- Metabolic alkalosis
- Hypovolaemia/hypotension
- Hypocalcaemia and hypomagnesaemia
- Hyperglycaemia
- Hyperuricaemia - can cause gout
- Hearing loss - same transporter it acts on is present in the ears so may act on it in the ears causing hearing loss

- Postural hypotension - esp in elderly
- Metabolic alkalosis
- Hypokalaemia
- Hyponatraemia - low Na+
- Hypomagnesaemia
- Hypercalaemia
- Hyperglycaemia
- Hyperlipidaemia
- Hyperuricaemia - linked more heavily than loops to gout

- Gynaecomastia
- Impotence
- Menstrual irregularities
- Hyperkalaemia - if used with someone on potassium supplements or ACEi or ARB
