Shoulder region - muscle origins and insertions Flashcards
Latissmus dorsi
(origins and insertions)
(intrinsic muscle)
Origin: Spinous process of T7-T12, L1-L5, and the sacrum, thoracolumbar fascia; inferior portion of the scapula; posterior third of the illiac crest; ribs 9-12.
Insertion: Intertubercular groove of the humerus.
Trapezius
(origins and Insertions)
(intrinsic muscle)
Origin: occipital bone; ligamentum nuchae; spinous process of T1-T12
Insertion: Scapular spine to the acromion to the lateral third of the clavicle.
Levator Scapulae
(origin and insertions)
(intrinsic muscle)
Origin: Transverse process of C1-C4.
Insertion: Superior part of medial (spinal) boarder of the scapula.
Rhomboids major
(origin and insertions)
(intrinsic muscle)
origin: spinous process of c1-c4
insertion: superior part of medial (spinal) boarder of the scapula
Teres major
(origin and insertion)
(extrinsic muscle)
origin: inferior angle of the humerus.
Insertion: intertubucular groove of the humerus
Rhomboids minor
(origin and insertion)
(intrinsic muscle)
origin: spinous processes of c7-t1
insertion: Medial (vertebral) boarder of scapula above scapula spine
Deltoid (anterior head, clavicle portion)
(origin and insertion)
(extrinsic muscle)
origin: lateral third of clavicle
insertion: deltoid tuberosity of the lateral side of the body of humerus
Supraspinatus
(origin and insertion)
(extrinsic muscle)
origin: the greater tubercle of the humerus

(origin and insertion)
(extrinsic muscle)
origin: acromion
insertion: deltoid tuberosity of lateral side of the humerus
Deltoid (posterior head, spinal)
(origin and insertion)
(extrinsic muscle)
origin: scapular spine
insertion: deltoid tuberosity of the lateral side of the humerus
Infraspinatus
(origin and insertion)
(extrinsic muscle)
origin: infraspinatus fossa on posterior surface of the scapulae
insertion: greater tubercle of the humerus.
Subscapularis
(origin and insertion)
(extrinsic muscle)
origin: subscapular fossa
insertion: lesser tubercle of the humerus.
Teres minor
(origin and insertion)
(extrinsic muscle)
origin: lateral boarder of the scapula
insertion: greater tuberosity of the humerus
