shoulder joint Flashcards
Shoulder joint articulation
ball and socket, humeral articulating with glenoid fossa of scapula
Planes of movements
3 planes/axes of movements, least stable
Sagittal plane/frontal Axis motions
flexion. extension, hyperextension
Frontal plane/Sagittal axis
abduction/adduction
Transverse plane/Vertical Axis
external rotation, internal rotation, horizontal ab/add
Joint capsule
A thin container, attaches around the rim of glenoid fossa of scapula
Taut.
at the end of normal range of movements, part of the joint capsule become tight (taught), to prevent movement beyond normal range
Taut/slack ex
shoulder abducted, inferior taut, superior slack
Coracohumeral ligament
attaches to coracoid process, strengthen upper part of joint capsule
Glenoid Labrum
fibrous tissues surrounding glenoid fossa, deepens cavity
Subdeltoid bursa
large bursa located b/w deltoid muscles and joint capsule
Subacromial Bursa
between acromion/coracoacromial lig
Rotator cuff define/muscles
tendinous band formed by insertions of Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, Subscapularis
Structures that helps shoulder stability
Glenoid labrum, glenoid fossa, joint capsule, rotator cuff muscles, shoulder muscles.
Muscles of shoulder joint
deltoid, supraspinatus, pec major, latissimus dorsi, teres major, infraspinatus, teres minor, subscapularis, coracobrachialis, biceps brachii, triceps brachii
