Shoulder & Arm Flashcards
Origin and Insertion of Deltoid
Origin: lateral 1/3 of clavicle; acromion; spine of the scapula
Insertion: deltoid tuberosity
Action of Deltoid All fibers
Abduct the shoulder
Action of Deltoid Anterior Fibers
Flex the shoulder; medially rotate the shoulder; horizontally adduct the shoulder
Actions of Deltoid Posterior Fibers
Extend the shoulder; laterally flex the shoulder; horizontally abduct the shoulder
Origin and Insertion of Trapezius
Origin: external occipital protuberance; medial portion of superior nuchal line; ligamentum nuchae; spinous process of C7 to T12
Insertion: Lateral 1/3 of clavicle; acromion; spine of scapula
Actions of Trapezius Upper Fibers
Bilaterally: extend the head and neck
Unilaterally: laterally flex the head and neck to same side; rotate head and neck to opposite side; elevate the scapula; upwardly rotate the scapula
Actions of Trapezius Middle Fibers
Adduct the shoulder; stabilize the scapula
Actions of Trapezius Lower Fibers
Depress the scapula; upwardly rotate the scapula
Origin and Insertion of Lats
Origin: inferior angle of scapula, thoracolumbar fascia, last 3 or 4 ribs, spinous process of last 6 thoratic vertebrae; posterior iliac crest
Insertion: intertubercular groove of humerus
Actions of Lats
Adduct the shoulder; extend the shoulder; medially rotate the shoulder
Origin and Insertion of Teres Major
Origin: Inferior angle and lower 1/3 of lateral border of scap
Insertion: crest of lesser tubercle of humerus
Actions of Teres Major
Extend; adduct and medially rotate the shoulder
Origin and insertion of subscapularis
Origin: subscapular fossa
Insertion: greater tubercle of humerus
Actions of subscapularis
stabilize the shoulder; abduct the shoulder
Origin and insertion of infraspinatus
Origin: infraspinous fossa
Insertion: greater tubercle of humerus
