Shoulder anatomy Flashcards
Name some ligaments in the shoulder.
- coracoacromial ligament
- Corconioclavicular ligament conoid and trapezoid.
- Coracohumeral ligament.
- Acromionoclavicular ligament
- Transverse glenohumeral ligament
- Superior glenohumeral ligamnet
- Middle glenohumeral ligament
- Inferior glenohumeraligament
Name some muscles that will affect the movement of the shoulder
Flexors== pectoralis major, deltoid (anterior fibres) , biceps brachii (long head), coracobrachialis
Extensors== latissimus dorsi, teres minor, pectoralis major, deltoid posterior fibres and triceps long head.
Abductors = supraspinatus , deltoid (Middle fibres)
Adducttors == coracobrachialis, pectoralis major, latissimus dorsi, teres major
Medial rotators= subscapularis, teres major, latissimus dorsi, pectoralis major, deltoid (anterior fibres)
Lateral rotators = teres minor, infraspinstus deltoid (posterior)
What bony landmarks are there in the shoulder?
scapula inferior, superior, medial and lateral
clavicle
coniod process
acromion
glenohumeral fossa
humerus = greater and lesser trochanter, deltoid tuberosity, posterior and anterior.
What joints are there in the shoulder?
acromioclavicular (ACJ), glenohumeral (GHJ), scapulothoracic (SCJ) and Sternoclavicular joint (SCJ).
What common conditions are there in the shoulder?
Cervical spondylosis (as pain can radiate down shoulders)
frozen shoulder
shoulder impingement
shoulder instability
rotator cuff tears
What is the origin and insertion of the biceps ??
The biceps have two heads
The long head orignates at the supraglenoid of the scapula
The short head orignates at the coracoid process
The long head inserts onto the radial tuberosity and the short head inserts onto the radial tuberosity.
Origin insertion and action of trapezius?
origin= occupital bone to T12
insertion= the one third of clavicular, acromion and spine of scapula.
Action= elevation, rotation and depression of the scapula.
Origin and insertion of lattimusdorsi?
Origin=
3-4 rib
iliac crest
T6-T12
L1-L5
Insertion=
the sulcrus of the humerus
Action = climbing. Gettting up from chair.
Origin and insertion of deltoid?
Origin =
anterior: 1/3 of the clavicle
middle: acromion process
posterior: spine of scapula
Insertion = deltoid tuberosity of humerus.
Action = abduction of arm past 15 degrees
What is the special tests for the rotator cuff?
Rotator cuff = Drop arm, Bear Hug, Lag test and Lift off test
What is the special test for impingement?
Impingement=
What is a special test for ACJ?
ACJ= scarf test and Sheer
What is the special test for instability?
Instability = Apprehension test and Jobe relocation
What is the special test for SLAP ?
SLAP= Throwers test and O’Brien’s test
what are the symptoms of a frozen shoulder ?
Age (50 years old), Stiff, active range of motion and passive range of motion. External rotation is the biggest most restricted. TREATMENT= pain dominant steroid injection or stiffness stretches.
